President's Welcome

Lydia DobrowlskyI can recall being five years old sitting with my sister outside a classroom on the second floor of the Main Building with our lunch boxes full of crayons and games. Staring at the towering classroom doors and the endless checkered hallways, we imagined we were inside a castle, but because we were expected to be on our best behavior, we stuck to working on our coloring books. You see, our mother was on the other side of the wall taking a night class as she worked towards her degree. If we were to have misbehaved, well, there wasn't anyone else we could have blamed; it wasn't as if the castle was full of little kids like us.

In college I was no longer sitting outside a classroom on the second floor of the Main Building; I was learning inside of one. And I wasn't alone. A few doors down my father was doing the same thing. (In fact, my mother, father and I all graduated from Mount Aloysius College.)

After graduation, you'd think my experiences on the second floor were over, and for a time they were, but God is good. Today I'm not just sitting outside or learning inside of a classroom on the second floor of the Main Building-I'm teaching in one.

I may be grown up now, but the classroom doors, hallways and experiences at Mount Aloysius College continue to overwhelm me; I could not have imagined the role this institution would play in my life. Therefore, I want to give back to the college that's given so much to me.

Now for your first assignment:

CHALLENGE yourself to reflect upon your time at Mount Aloysius.

CONSIDER the blessings, experiences and life lessons associated with Mount Aloysius. Maybe this institution...

  • helped you get a job.
  • encouraged you to pursue further education.
  • allowed you to earn an income and save for the retirement you now enjoy.
  • challenged you to be a better person.
  • introduced you to someone unforgettable.
  • enriched your relationship with Christ.CONTEMPLATE what your life would be like if you had never experienced these things.

COMMIT something of yourself whether it is time, money, or prayer to Mount Aloysius.

Albert Einstein once said, "It is every man's obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it," so I encourage you to once again be a part of the Mount Aloysius community. Have you given back to Mount Aloysius what it's given you? Your involvement is important to MAC.

Your assignment must be emailed to ldobrowolsky@mtaloy.edu by Friday at 5:00 p.m. Just kidding...but seriously, I'd love to hear from you.

Warmest Regards,
